TISSUE SILK IS A VARIANT OF THE ODISHA SILK SAREE THAT COMES WITH EXTRA ZARI WORK ON ITS BORDER AND PALLU. THIS ADDS WEIGHT TO THE SAREE AS WELL AS ADDS THAT EXTRA BIT OF SHEEN.
Sambalpuri Tissue Silk Saree — Odisha’s iconic ikat weave with the luxe shimmer of tissue silk.
Core elements:
Fabric & technique Base: 100% Pure Handloom Silk / Mulberry silk. “Tissue” means fine zari threads are woven with silk to give a metallic sheen Weave: Sambalpuri Bandha or Ikat. Yarns are tie-dyed before weaving, so patterns have that signature soft, blurred outline
Signature design features Pallu: Extraordinary woven designs — peacocks, Konark Chakra, flowers, temple motifs, Nabakothi grids. Tissue pallu makes these motifs glow Borders: Contrasting colors with traditional temple/kumbha, rudraksha, or phoda kumbha patterns in tissue-zari Body motifs: Buti, pasapalli, sankha, padma, shankh, barfi, or plain with tissue borders
Colors & combinations Common: Blue- Gold Tissue adds gold highlights to the base color
Feel & drape Lightweight despite the silk, with fluid drape. The tissue gives festive sheen without stiffness. Each piece is handwoven, so minor irregularities are the mark of authenticity
Occasion & use Weddings, festivals, puja, formal events. Considered heirloom-worthy. Comes with running blouse piece, with tissue border to match
Care Dry clean only. Store wrapped in muslin, away from direct light and moisture. Don’t spray perfume directly on tissue
